John Edwards: sex, lies and videotape

Pourquoi s'intéresser encore à ce politicien? Au-delà du potin, il y a également la frontière entre la vie privée et la vie publique. l y a également la réputation des politiciens et des serviteurs de l'état.

"Officially, the trial is about the Justice Department’s allegations that Edwards broke the law during his 2008 presidential campaign by conspiring with two of his backers to secretly funnel nearly $1 million to his mistress, Rielle Hunter, who was pregnant with his child. That money, prosecutors say, amounted to illegal, unreported campaign contributions because they were being used to hush up a relationship whose exposure could damage his political prospects.

But at a time when scandals involving the Secret Service and the General Services Administration are grabbing headlines, Edwards’s trial — regardless of its outcome — seems certain to fuel public perceptions of those in government and politics as sleazy characters undeserving of trust."
