J'affirmais hier que je ne me souvenais pas d'un tel manque de respect à l,endroit d'un Président américaine en politique étrangère. Quarante-sept sénateurs qui écrivent directement à un autre gouvernement en ignorant complètement l'exécutif. L'auteur de cet article du Washington Post va dans le même sens et il recule jusqu'à une démarche secrète de Richard Nixon pour trouver un cas similaire. Jamais, même lorsque le Président Bush fils était au plus mal dans les sondages, les opposants se sont montrés aussi peu respectueux. On attaque à la fois l'homme et l'institution.
"But as has happened so many times before, Republicans seem to have concluded that there is one set of rules and norms that apply in ordinary times, and an entirely different set that applies when Barack Obama is the president. You no longer need to show the president even a modicum of respect. You can tell states to ignore the law. You can sabotage delicate negotiations with a hostile foreign power by communicating directly with that power."
