Texas: des sécessionnistes remettent en question l'intégration l'intégration aux États-Unis

Après sa rutpure avec le Mexique, le Texas fut un état indépendant entre 1836 et 1845. Le Congrès américain a voté une loi pour annexer le Texas en 1845 et la population s'est prononcée en faveur de l'annexion la même année. Pourtant un groupe de sécessionnistes de cet état prétend que le Texas n'a jamais légalement intégré le territoire des États-Unis. Ce groupe vote chaque année pour ses représentants, frappe sa propre monnaie et entreprend même des démarches auprès d'élus d'autres états. Ce groupe de séparatistes a cependant été la cible d'une descente des forces de l'ordre de leur ville, de l'état et du F.B.I..

 "The authorities said the raid was part of an investigation into a batch of letters the Republic of Texas had sent to a judge and a lawyer in Kerrville, Tex. They noted that those with ties to the group have taken their nationalist beliefs to violent extremes in the past, including a seven-day standoff with the authorities in 1997 that ended with a gun battle in which one group member was killed. The group’s leaders said that officials behind the recent raid had overreacted with a show of force and that the letters were lawful."
